we're home!

we're home and we had a fantastic night at distortion last night, thank you all for making is such a success. cold as it was outside, we certainly had the heat on, friends.

i'm working on putting the last tour vlog together, i apologize for tardiness - life and all, eh? i'm gearing into making the new record, there's lots on my mind! but in the meantime, anyone who missed the distortion show, and, hell - anyone who was at the distortion show! we've been asked to join the tantalizing adam baxter threesome and the absolutely fabulous repartee at the rockhouse this coming saturday, november 7th - i'll be rocking a full four-piece lineup again, and we're really looking forward to getting back into that room to make some loud beautiful music.

hey guys (gals!)

we've been keeping kind of quiet over the summer as i've been holed up finishing the writing of the new record (exciting stuff!) and working on some plans and some plans and then more writing and plans and maybe sleep? it's been a busy time.

all that said, though, i wanted to drop a line to make sure you guys know of a couple shows we will have coming up in the month of august - next saturday we're playing a rare all-ages gig at distortion with friends of ours from halifax, shelter with thieves. great guys, great band - great excuse to come down and check out some cool tunes on a saturday afternoon, it's a pretty diverse line-up, and we're pleased as punch to've been asked to play.

we'd be utterly remiss, mind you, if we neglected to host one more big blow-out at the rock house before the end of the summer. This will likely be catcher's last gig in town before the fall tour, as i've got to finish the last bits of writing for the album and then i'll have a new band to rehearse for tour, so we're looking forward to seeing everyone there - we've got a fantastic new group called repartee (pet project of megan warren, as accompanied by chad murphy, paddy byrne, and andrew mccarthy!) on board to open the night, and I'll do up the event and start promo in earnest once the rest of the line-up is finalized. in the meantime, however, friday august 21st - mark your calendars!

past the mission

been home for a couple of weeks now, may as well check in, eh?

the birthday/come-home show went brilliantly! thanks to those who played and all those who attended - i could definitely stand to get old this way.

have settled back into the home life, and am straining those creative juices for the remaining songs to round out the next record! starting in gentle by trying to round out and beef up some existing demos, but there are some new bits and pieces floating about already. i'm very much looking forward to making this record, i learned a lot of lessons last time around, and i'm positively chomping at the bit to put them all into action. shopping around for an engineer soon, i'm very excited to be in a position where i can hire someone else to press 'record' for me - and i'll be using a lot of pretty toys this time around. i'm looking forward to getting some really killer sounds on this record, and that notion's got me all tingly and anticipatory.

in news maybe not so far down the road, we're rollin' on down to the rock house tonight for a COCA showcase and we've only recently accepted a gracious offer from another north to join them on the bill at the levee (formerly roxxy's) on the 27th of june - should be fun!

on a more final and serious note - keep an eye on iran, friends. not to get too heavy on you, but that shit is fucked up. there's a whole lot of people over there risking their lives and putting up with a whole lot of bullshit because they want to participate in the democratic process, and have their voices heard and respected. that's heady stuff to a white kid living in a country that couldn't bother to get off their collective asses and go to the polls in the fall. (i'll take this opportunity to point out that while we left for tour the day of the federal election in october, i made sure i got myself and my boys up a little bit early to rock the vote before we left town.)
point being, the last time our country had the opportunity to pick our poison, our biggest obstacle was our own apathy - not the barrel of a gun. mull that over as we keep an eye on the situation and hope that a peaceful display of dissent and international pressure can get some transparency and accountability for a population who've earned it. if ahmadinejad won fairly, then cheers to him, by all means - but show your workings, y'all. there ought to only be the one set of results.

and just like that, it was all done! the last consecutive gig of tour - we have the rock house yet, a week from now, but the tour proper is pretty much done. holy shit man! kinda crazy that it's all over now - we've got to get to home tomorrow, lunch in grand falls and home before dinner, with any luck.

hello, hello, hello -

today we bid toronto a second (and final) farewell for this tour. we got to the zoo this time around, and had a private victoria day fireworks show on the roof last night. i made fantastic spaghetti and today we had enormous (afternoon) breakfast before we ship out to st. catharines.

we saw juck off a couple days ago - he's has to go home because some family stuff came up. it kinda sucks, but it's just a difference - i also play guitar, i'll just do more of it. the feel of the show will change a bit, that's all - no worse, just a change. woulda been good to be able to finish the tour as we started it, but the ability to cope with adversity is one i value pretty highly - so adjust we will. i have faith in my boys, and our ability to put off just as a good a show as a trio.

on the road to kingston in sunny weather, suddenly. stayed with my cousin and his beautiful children after a really successful gig at maverick's in ottawa. now that we've hit ontario, the hope is that the daily drives will get shorter and i'll be filling the tank less frequently.

again and again, i have to emphasize how well the band has come together - i'm positively tickled at how everyone's playing and getting along together. spirits are high and everyone's really enjoying themselves - i couldn't be happier. more news soon.

today was a travel day! nothing wonderful nor terrible so far, we got all the places we said we'd be when we said we'd be there. spirits are fairly high, all things considered - tomorrow night - we finally start to play some shows!

maybe i'll go watch monday night's 'heroes' on my laptop. ohshit, was there a new 'fringe' or 'the mentalist' last night? i'm gonna get so far behind on my freakin' teevee shows.

as well you can probably tell by now, i've done another redesign on the website! this time i've gone with a decidedly more 'outdoorsey' themed palatte and layout, heavily inspired by some of the fantastic promo photography of the lovely and talented ruth skinner.

the bulk of the spring tour has been announced, but there are still some more dates to fill in and sure up, so keep checking back, my darlings! the website ought to be kept more up-to-date on that sort of thing from here out, but there's always myspace when it comes to dates and things - so much to keep track of, goodness me!

i'll be starting rehearsals with a brand new band within days, i hope, gearing up for our expedition in the month of may - hopefully there'll be a nice and official announcement on that in the week ahead, i've just got one tiny last little thing to clean up before i'm ready to carve it in stone.

the new van is a beaut, i think i just might name it falcor. (neverending story represent!) i'll get that bad boy insured in the days ahead, we'll trick it out for road warrioring, and bob's your uncle! (don't laugh, i have an uncle bob, and he's magnificent).

that's all that rolls off the fingers just now, chickadees - keep 'er locked, there's bound to be loads of exciting stuff happening over the next little while.

hey friends!
snow's on the way (slowly but surely) and we're settling in a bit for these winter months. the musicnl showcase went really well out in gander, and we're getting word back from the east coast music association that we'll be showcasing the 2009 ecma's in corner brook in february!

all is not wholly dormant, though, if you'll direct your attention to a new ezine called music east, you'll find that those sweet things have run a cover story on little ol' us! ride on over to http://musiceast.weebly.com/ to download the december issue and subscribe to the magazine - it's an entirely electronic publication, which means no waste and no paper. they'll e-mail you every month when the newest issue is out, and you can download a .pdf copy of your very own.

christmas is but weeks away, and while we may or may not get some playin' in before the month is through, i'm gonna try and get some sort of a little christmas present together for you, our nearest and dearest - so watch this space and the youtube channel, and we'll see what i can whip up now that the term of death is passed.

somewhere close on 200 of you crazy fuckers came through Distortion throughout the course of the night, that's fucking crazy, you're amazing, and i love you all.

it's only been a few days i saw many of you last, but i miss your little faces off. tour so far has been fantastic, the rock house show in particular blew the roof off the frigging place - my eternal gratitude to everyone who came out and made it an incredible night, it's great to see familiar faces, and it's even better to meet the new ones that you're bringing along with you.

big ups and much love to keepin' 6, with whom we shared 5 shows on the the island - those are top notch boys and we think the world of them - we'll do it again, for sure.
